A 37-year-old Hilo man apparently drowned while fishing on Saturday in a Honomu area called “23 Flats.”

A 37-year-old Hilo man apparently drowned while fishing on Saturday in a Honomu area called “23 Flats.”

Police and Fire personnel received a 3:09 p.m. call stating that Ian Tengan had been fishing at the water’s edge with a friend and disappeared after being swept from the rocky shoreline by rough waves. Divers recovered his body a short time later.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
